Walter Gibbs:
Norwegian-English translation and editing

Introduction

Picture
I translate reports, articles, books and other texts from Norwegian to English for customers who demand both precision and polish. I'm also an editor of English-language manuscripts.

A good translator has a full range of expression in two or more languages. Just as important is to have a broad base of knowledge. Translators authorized by the Norwegian Ministry of Education and Research have mastered general language skills as well as economic, administrative, legal and technological jargon as certified by the Norwegian School of Economics in Bergen.

Among those who use my services are national ministries, research institutes and arts groups as well as publishing houses and other private companies. Individuals with small projects are welcome, too.

For many years I worked as a correspondent in Norway for British and American media organizations (please see www.waltergibbs.com). I covered topics ranging from energy, banking, shipping and fisheries to public policy, the markets and cultural affairs. Insider jargon is seldom an obstacle when I translate or edit professional materials.

Use the tabs above to learn more about what I do. I respond quickly to email enquiries (click here to send one).

If I am unavailable, I will recommend a colleague who can handle the project in question. Beware of computer translation programmes, inexperienced translators and agencies that underpay young free-lancers.
